On a plain grassy, wild and bare
Wide, wild and open to the air
Which had built up everywhere
And under roof of doleful grey
There I will furnish up my funeral bed
Strewn with the bones and relics of the dead
Atlas shall let the Olympic burden fall
To cover my untombed face withall
Shun this cruel light and end your thrall
In these soft shades of sable funeral
Revive the dead and make the living die
In ruth and terror of your tortury
Still all the power of art into your groans
Scorning your trivial and remissive moans
From whence with ghosts, whom vengeance holds from rest
Dog-fiends and monsters haunting the distressed
As men whose parents tyranny hath slain
Whose sisters rape and bondage do sustain
So, in the light of great eternity
Life eminent creates the shade of death
The shadow passeth when the tree shall fall
But it shall reign for ever over all
On a plain grassy, wild and bare
Wide, wild, and open to the air
Which had built up everywhere
And under roof of doleful grey
Shun this cruel light and end your thrall
In these soft shades of sable funeral
Atlas shall let the Olympic burden fall
To cover my untombed face withall
