We went up to see my Aunt Loretta yesterday
When my father asked if I was free
What I thought to myself, and I would never dare to say
Is I really hope she recognizes me
We're shown into the room, and there she's laying in her bed
Surrounded by the daughters she had raised
And as the day went by, each hour brought more misty eyes
Who had come to see her in her final days
Don't worry if she doesn't know your name,
I promise you she's happy that you came
She doesn't want to be alone,
She doesn't want to be apart,
Though she's lost within her mind
She knows you in her heart
Now her sister Mary's had the same condition for a while
And all she knows to play is crazy eights
"Michael, it's so nice to see you"
She says with a smile
I was always told I had my fathers face
Now Loretta speaks, and she says "I'm going home,
To Nova Scotian fields", and through her tears
Eunice leans across the bed, and fluffs the pillows beneath her head
Her mother hasn't lived out easy in sixty years
And don't worry if she doesn't know your name
I promise you she's happy that you came
She doesn't want to be alone,
She doesn't want to be apart,
Though she's lost within her mind
She knows you in her heart
She doesn't want to be alone,
She doesn't want to be apart
Thought she's lost within her mind
She'll find you in her heart
