Way back in the spring of '74
Hanging out front of the corner store
Cheyenne, Paul, Calvin, and me
We were young; thick as thieves
Cheyenne; pale-skinned freckled read-head
Paul; tall and skinny; a nerdy kid
Calvin; heavy-set, an awkward boy
And me; just angry at the world
And we were friends
Yea, we were friends
We swore a blood oath
We'd have each other's back til the very end
Cheyenne had to deal with a violent dad
A mother too scared to lend a hand
Paul had to deal with a broken home
No dad at all; his mom was always stoned
Calvin had a pretty strange family
Treated him like a foster entity
I had a home full of drugs
Entire family; a gang of thugs
So, we were friends
Yea, we were friends
We swore a blood oath
We'd have each other's back til the very end
It was 75 when Cheyenne moved away
It broke our hearts; we'd never be the same
But Paul, Calvin, and me
We did our best; just us three
In high school Paul began to stumble
He drifted in and out of trouble
We did our best to help him get clear
But Paul just didn't wanna hear
