Leaving our lives behind, losing all our sense of time
So the way we think we came is not what brought us
Moving in the starry space, finding nothing but a face
A shining waste, crossing nowhere, but still it brought us.
It won't take a minute dear, to find out we were wrong
Get your things it's time we were gone
The union and the state we found
Will never make a son
And he'll never ask us why, or where he's from.
It's a hard thing to call, when you know how hard the fall
But some part of me wishes you'd stall to keep me waiting
I'd run through the empty gate, climb the tower and curse the fate
Cos when you land, it's a mistake, we keep making.
I can't wait a minute dear, does it matter what we do
Tell me you don't want to see me soon
Wishes nose about out there, like airplanes on the ground
And I probably won't stay blue when you touch down.
Clockwatch days that never end, cups of coffee filled and spent
Counted out to pay the rent and billed by the hour
Though so ready to begin this awful weight has done us in
And now the taste in my mouth has made time sour
It just takes a minute dear, for a feeling bound to fade
I've got no future country I can claim
The stranger in the picture here, won't recognise my name
Cos he doesn't know what number flight he's taking
