Shadow boxing
The uncertain hour
No astronaut but I've been into orbit
And seen the one-eyed world
The gaping eye of winter
I've seen the solitude at the centre
Trying to make it home to Coney Island
But the boys are closing in fast
And now the autumns pass
And these footsteps we can't retrace
Hang like question marks
Forking paths, no resolution
Watching the contrast shift
And the lights fade
And the old downtown chaos
Does its shuffle to an ancient song
Light years away
And everything is deep in decay
Right on for the darkness like they used to say
The outlines at West Ken
Grimace like old ghosts
The days we knew least but dreamed most
These strange nights
And these cold days
They all feel the same
But if the world
Keeps turning around
Will it turn us inside out
These strange nights
And these cold days
They all feel the same
But if the world
Keeps turning around
Will it turn us inside out
And these dark waters
These deep caverns underneath it all
Are where ancient spirits reside
Unscathed by waves that crash
And teeth that grind
They communicate with us from a past time
Guides from beyond
Dragons with the deepest dye
Slow sift for the hourglass now
With the deepest sigh
Through the looking glass with beating heart
Into great silence we go
Into the marshes
Herons on the soft sand
In a landscape of ghosts and weathered stones
Where a razorblade can turn into a white flag
Yesteryear's carcasses
Tar blackened, bombed out
The indifferent mechanism burns out
And then the arrow and the rust and the sorrow
That speaks through the womb and the armour
Formations from forever
4-4-2, 5-4-1 we're on guard
Braced for the weather
And yes it's heavy skies
Old devotions die hard
But eventually become stars
And these dynasties will never die
They will glitter, they will bleed light
So here's to flux when it's all told
When the bitterest root turns to gold
These strange nights
And these cold days
They all feel the same
But if the world
Keeps turning around
Will it turn us inside out
These strange nights
And these cold days
They all feel the same
But if the world
Keeps turning around
Will it turn us inside out
