Life is a well of delight
But the rabble poisons the well
Maggots devour their bread of life
Verily my spirit climbed to transcend their strife
The rabble are still yet a part
Not even a part to be denied
Have they driven you away?
I grew weary of my spirit as I found the rabble rich in spirit
I even turned my back on the rulers when I found that they bargained with the rabble
I dwelt with closed ears and strange tongues so their language would become alien
Thus have I long lived to avoid the rabble
Here on the loftiest height I partake in the well of delight
I discovered the source and now I drink away from the rabble
Through suffering and strife
Their lives refuted
"Only a fool remains alive"
So they tell us (Silenus)
Western Pessimism takes hold
The mob gets the final say
Thus the genius walks away
Back to the cave
