As darkness falls
Waves break on black rocks
Roaring in my skull
Like the sound of fallen men
Uncertainty plagues my mind
Crawling past consciousness and into dreams
Tearing down my solitude
Exposing lights of forgotten hues
I feel their warmth run between my bones
Catching fast and burning slow
I fear not the undertow
But welcome back the safe trip home
With hands so etherial
You part the cold and icy water
And although thoughts claw their way up through my throat
I cannot speak a single word
When I look upon your face
I am caught by torment and reverence
For what I see
Starring back at me
Is too darn bright
Too comely
And unspeakable
To be
Of this earth
