Portugal. The Man - Woodstock Album Lyrics

Portugal. The Man - Woodstock Lyrics

Number One

[ Featuring Richie Havens, Son Little ]

Freedom, freedom
Freedom, freedom
Sometimes I feel like a motherless child
Sometimes I feel like a motherless child
A long way from my home
Sometimes I feel like I'm almost gone
Sometimes I feel like I'm almost gone

When the morning came
Like another's pain
But didn't know to fade
Like the sound it made
Let's go down the drain
With the falling rain
Wash away the stains
In that evening shade

It's that sufferin'
Don't know why it brings
Such sweet memories
Will be the enemy

But you'll come out alright (yeah)
I know it seems there's no end in sight (yeah)
But it doesn't mean you can't put up a fight
But you don't know how
But you don't know how

No, no, no
No, no, no
No, no, no
No, no, no

All the trails we blazed
Have long since been paved
Leading the modern age
On down memory lane
Can't turn the page
Like it's just a phase
Somehow still be amazed
That the leaves had changed

It's that sufferin'
Don't know why it brings
Such sweet memories
Will be the end of me

But you'll come out alright
(Yeah) I know it seems there's no end in sight
(Yeah) But it doesn't mean you can't put up a fight
But ya don't, no, no
But ya don't, no, no

But you'll come out alright
(Yeah) I know it seems there's no end in sight
(Yeah) But it doesn't mean you can't put up a fight
But ya don't, no, no
But ya don't, no, no

Sometimes I feel like I'm almost gone
Sometimes I feel like I'm almost gone
When I need my brother, yeah
Father, yeah
Sister, yeah
Mother, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

It's gonna be all right telling white lies
Of ate nights 'til sunrise
'Cause when we rise up, we rise up above
All of the chaos to get lost
Don't make me, don't make me, wake up
'Cause I'm gonna be like a drug
That never gets old or gives hope
But, baby, you make me feel loved

Easy Tiger

Good kid, bad brains
Livin' for whatever
Tight rope, no chains
Holdin' it together

But it's hard to see clouds
When you're six feet underground
Keep building a house
Then tearing it down

And it goes on, on
It goes on
Dumb coconut, can't break it open

Can't break it open
Easy tiger
You're only sixteen goin' on forever
Take it easy tiger
Dumb coconut, can't break it open
Easy tiger
Only sixteen goin' on forever
Easy tiger
You're only sixteen goin' on forever

No rain, clear skies
At least I got the weather
Bought in, sold out
Finger up to heaven

'Cause I still see your face
Getting lost in the crowd
And I still hear the sound
Of the pack when they howl

And it goes on, on
It goes on
Dumb coconut, can't break it open

Easy tiger
You're only sixteen goin' on forever
Take it easy tiger
Dumb coconut, can't break it open
Easy tiger
Only sixteen goin' on forever
Easy tiger
You're only sixteen goin' on forever

Gasping for air, I'm chokin'
Runnin' with no sign of slowin'
'Til my legs are broken (easy tiger)
Gasping for air, I'm chokin'
Runnin' with no sign of slowin'

Dumb coconut, can't break it open
Easy tiger
You're only sixteen goin' on forever
Take it easy tiger
Dumb coconut, can't break it open
Easy tiger
You're only sixteen goin' on forever

Live In The Moment

My home
Is a girl with eyes like wishing wells
I'm not alone
But I'm still lone, lonely
When I was young
Always go below the midnight sun
Those days are done
But I'm still glowing

Ooh la la la la la
Let's live in the moment
Come back Sunday morning
A lie, oh well
When you're gone
Goodbye, so long, farewell

Ooh la la la la la
Let's live in the moment
Come back Sunday morning
With that soul to sell
When you're gone
Goodbye, so long, farewell

My home
Is a girl who can't wait for time to tell
God only knows
We don't need history
When your family
Swinging from the branches of a tree
God only knows
We don't need ghost stories

Ooh la la la la la
Let's live in the moment
Come back Sunday morning
A lie, oh well
When you're gone
Goodbye, so long, farewell

Ooh la la la la la
Let's live in the moment
Come back Sunday morning
With that soul to sell
When you're gone
Goodbye, so long, farewell

Ooh I can't believe it
Nothing's gonna comfort me now

Ooh I can't believe it
Nothing's gonna comfort me now

Ooh la la la la la
Let's live in the moment
Come back Sunday morning
A lie, oh well
When you're gone
Goodbye, so long, farewell

Ooh la la la la la
Let's live in the moment
Come back Sunday morning
With that soul to sell
When you're gone
Goodbye, so long, farewell

Oh my god I can't believe my eyes
Wake up everybody you know
Come and watch the garden grow
I'll see you when you get there

Oh my god I can't believe my eyes
Wake up everybody you know
Come and watch the garden grow
I'll see you when you get there
I'll see you when you get there
I'll see you when you get there

Feel It Still

Can't keep my hands to myself
Think I'll dust 'em off, put 'em back up on the shelf
In case my little baby girl is in need
Am I coming out of left field?

Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now
I been feeling it since 1966, now
Might be over now, but I feel it still
Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now
Let me kick it like it's 1986, now
Might be over now, but I feel it still

Got another mouth to feed
Leave her with a baby sitter, mama, call the grave digger
Gone with the fallen leaves
Am I coming out of left field?

Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now
I been feeling it since 1966, now
Might've had your fill, but you feel it still
Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now
Let me kick it like it's 1986, now
Might be over now, but I feel it still

We could fight a war for peace
(Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now)
Give in to that easy living
Goodbye to my hopes and dreams
Stop flipping for my enemies
We could wait until the walls come down
(Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now)
It's time to give a little to the
Kids in the middle, but oh 'til it falls
Won't bother me

Is it coming?
Is it coming?
Is it coming?
Is it coming?
Is it coming?
Is it coming back?

Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, yeah
Your love is an abyss for my heart to eclipse, now
Might be over now, but I feel it still

Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now
I've been feeling it since 1966, now
Might be over now, but I feel it still
Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now
Let me kick it like it's 1986, now
Might be over now, but I feel it still
Might've had your fill, but you feel it still

Rich Friends

Hey man I'm cool to lean on
But I'm not your property
See I'm crushin' down these problems
Cuttin' pain with poverty
I'm just tryna catch a free ride
From the temple to the tomb

I could really really really
Use a rich rich friend like you
I could really really really
Use a rich rich friend like you

Let me be your one-man army
I'll campaign for anarchy
I been slippin' through the cracks
Like I was clothed in Vaseline
Let me be your little sunshine
In all this gloom and doom

I could really really really
Use a rich rich friend like you
I could really really really
Use a rich rich friend like you

Crashin' on chardonnay and Adderall
Driving head on into the Wonderwall
Every day holidays when daddy's gone
Livin' life like we're the only ones that know we're famous

From the Capetown coliseums
Cold disparity
Electric fences hummin' like a hive without a queen
We're all tryna catch a free ride
From the temple to the tomb

I could really really really
Use a rich rich friend like you
I could really really really
Use a rich rich friend like you

Crashin' on chardonnay and Adderall
Driving head on into the Wonderwall
Every day holidays when daddy's gone
Livin' life like we're the only ones that know we're famous

Crashin' on chardonnay and Adderall
Driving head on into the Wonderwall
Every day holidays when daddy's gone
Livin' life like we're the only ones that know we're famous

Keep On

Keep on hangin' on
Stuck here 'til I'm gone
Boys still throwin' stones
Runnin' till I'm wrong

I never listened
To tell the truth
I never knew
But nobody misses
What you did
Quite like I do

Got me thinkin' 'bout it
All day long
All day long

Bangin' my head against the wall
All day long
Bangin' my head against the wall
Dead and gone

But I'm seein' a pattern
Fallin' from a ladder
Must be trippin' like a cartoon
Slippin' on a banana

Looked up in the sun
Burned out but I ain't done
Ice cream meltin' down
Drippin' on the ground

Young black and gifted
Never lose, gotta be the shoes
That old money privilege
Got me confused
What is it you do?

Got me thinking 'bout it
All day long
Bangin' my head against the wall
All day long
Bangin' my head against the wall
All day long
Bangin' my head against the wall
All day long
And it's all and it's all and it's all day long
'Til we're dead and gone

Maybe I'm trippin' to tell the truth
Don't have a clue
(Maybe you're not alone, that's right)
Or maybe I missed out on my youth
Playing it cool

Man in the mirror like
Grow up, be a winner
Blow up, be a winner

All day long, 'til we're dead and gone
Be a winner
All day long, 'til we're dead and gone
Grow up, be a winner
All day long, 'til we're dead and gone

Bangin' my head against the wall
All day long
And it's all and it's all and it's all day long
Bangin' my head against the wall
'Til we're dead and gone
And it's all day long 'til we're dead and gone
Bangin' my head against the wall

So Young

So young, just begun
Don't need to live to know
What I've become
When ya wake up
Still in your make-up
You'll make it home just
Fine without breaking down

Man that's so young
That's so young

Stay calm, we'll all just get along
Sit around, pretending like nothing's wrong
So long, love letter
But you and I are gonna live forever

I don't need to make amends
But I'm done going undercover
I just want to find a friend
I don't need another lover
One day the world may end
But there's still plenty to discover
Till then I'll just pretend
I don't need another lover

So young, loaded gun
Oblivious to what the trigger does
Will ya wake up
Never gonna make up
Got ammunition on a mission
We're gonna shoot you down

Man that's so young
That's so young

Knocked out with the Midas touch
A champion wearing golden gloves
Got you punch drunk, seeing stars
Little birdies singing "why'd ya fall so hard?"

I don't need to make amends
But I'm done going undercover
I just want to find a friend
I don't need another lover
One day the world may end
But there's still plenty to discover
Till then I'll just pretend
I don't need another lover

My light burning bright
Everlong till the thrill is gone
Love's my battle cry
It's never wrong
How I stay so strong
I'll fight all my life
I'm all like I can't go on
When I can't go on
We're gonna live forever
We're gonna live forever

I don't need to make amends
But I'm done going undercover
I just want to find a friend
I don't need another lover
Today the world will end
You never know we may recover
No time left to pretend
I don't need another lover

Ooh, it's troubling
When the belly of the beast starts rumbling
Ooh, it's getting too hot
Like the summer in the city that we're living in

Ooh, it's troubling
When the belly of the beast starts rumbling
Ooh, it's getting too hot
Like the summer in the city that we're living in

If you're so young

Mr Lonely

[ Featuring Fat Lip ]

(New York City, 1977)

Are you living your teens in a shed?
Is growing up giving you the bends?
My little sunshine getting jealous
Of the moonbeams feeling gloomy
In your bed?
Left your friends
Where the pavement ends
Little broken bones begins
But can you hear me now?

There's glitter falling
And a banner that says
Welcome to Hell
Make yourself at home
Leave behind free will
Can you feel me now?

You know I can't feel this pain in my heart
Because it's honestly been falling apart
Maybe I'm too blind to see
Why trouble finds me
But if it's here I'm gonna see where it leads
Call me Mister Lonely

You can call me anything
Call me if you know me
You can call me King
I don't know if you think below me
You can call me anything
Call me if you know me
You can call me King
While they're hanging out below me
You can call me King
I don't think you wanna know me
Don't call me
Call me Mister Lonely

The stars are falling
And I bet they got some stories to tell
Been not long ago
When I knew you well
Listen for a change
Can you hear it now?

You know I can't feel this pain in my heart
Because it's honestly been falling apart
Maybe I'm too blind to see
How trouble finds me
Well if it's here I'm gonna see where it leads
Call me Mister Lonely

You can call me anything
Call me if you know me
You can call me King
I don't know if you think below me
You can call me anything
Call me if you know me
You can call me King
While they're hanging out below me
You can call me King
I don't think you wanna know me
Don't call me King
Call me Mister Lonely

Whisper our dreams to the dark (hello?)
You know that song in your head
The bitter past sleeps
And the pity on believers
And we're lookin' for the way
Under there
Beautiful things
Where the pavement ends
Little broken bones begin
But can you hear me now?

Broken promises
Alcohol anonymous
Inducted in the hall of fame for vomitin'
I've puked round the world
I'm the Duke of Hurl
I used to have a girl
But she wasn't happy
She left me naturally
She left with Natalie
They left in the back of a taxi
They was laughin' at me
So I lit the club
Bottles up, poppin' shit
False sense of happiness
Perhaps I'll take what I get
I guess it's better than nothing, right?
At least I got this blunt to light
I'm doin' what I want tonight
Tomorrow I might f*ck my life
Laugh once, cry twice
I'm bad at takin' good advice
Man this lonely life ain't nothin' nice

Tidal Wave

I can see it in your eyes
See it in your face
Banging on your chest
Acting tough looking unfazed

Tripping over landlines
Cutting deep with a dull blade (blade)
Running out of unrest
Goin' out of your mind

Lonely days will follow
Days will follow
And the gaze that stuck
The halls will know your name

Hit me like a tidal wave
Triggered by the aftershock
Hit me like a tidal wave
Triggered by the aftershock
Hit me like a tidal wave
Triggered by the aftershock

An aftershock
The aftershock
Triggered by the aftershock

I can see it with my own eyes
The tracks down your face
It can't be easy tryna unwind
Sleepin' on your day dreams

I'm not tryna role play
I keep thinkin' break us take the wheel
These days can break
But I'm gonna take the wheel

Hit me like a tidal wave
Triggered by the aftershock
Hit me like a tidal wave
Triggered by the aftershock
Hit me like a tidal wave
Triggered by the aftershock

An aftershock
The aftershock
Triggered by the aftershock

Bet on the winners
Worst of you's born to lose
Bed with no dinner
The rest of you's born to lose
Better than zero
Worst of you's born to lose
Bet on the winners

Hit me like a tidal wave
Triggered by the aftershock
Hit me like a tidal wave
Triggered by the aftershock
Hit me like a tidal wave
Triggered by the aftershock

An aftershock
The aftershock

Noise Pollution

Hello, I'm, hello, I'm, hello, I'm
Hello, I'm introducing
Hello, I'm introducing
Live leak the revolution
Go stream it now on demand
New world distribution
Let's make low resolutions
Let's reverse evolution
Let's leave behind this dry land
Crawl back to the ocean

Act like you're over it, still be upset
Naturally gifted or losing it
Act like you're over it, still be upset
Naturally gifted, down for heavy lifting

I know my rights, je t'aime Paris
Live or die like c'est la vie
With my fist in the air, "je suis Charlie"
Can't ya see I'm feeling magnifique?

So down, is there no hope?
I can't believe in no one
So down, is there no hope?
I can't believe in no one

Out for me, out for me, out for me, out for me
They got it out for me, out for me, out for me, out for me

Broke out the institution
Got lost in the confusion
Not mad, man, I'm a big fan
I love that noise pollution
It's in my constitution
Forever disillusioned
So, go on, keep on talking
Y'all can't take my bullshit
Can't take my bullshit
Can't take my bullshit

Act like you're over it, still be upset
Naturally gifted, down for heavy lifting

I know my rights, je t'aime Paris
Live or die like c'est la vie
With my fist in the air, "Je suis Charlie"
Can't ya see I'm feeling magnifique?

So down, is there no hope? (c'est la vie)
I can't believe in no one (I'm still feeling magnifique)
So down, is there no hope?
I can't believe in no one

Tu cries, tu souffres, et tu souris
Tu broies du noir, et tu rougis
Tu cries, tu souffres, et tu souris
Tu broies du noir et tu serais

I know my rights, je t'aime Paris
Live or die like c'est la vie
With my fist in the air, "je suis Charlie"
Can't ya see I'm feeling magnifique?

I know my rights, je t'aime Paris
Live or die like c'est la vie
Even when the world has it out for me
I'm still feeling magnifique

So down, is there no hope? (c'est la vie)
I can't believe in no one (magnifique)
So down, is there no hope?
I can't believe in no one

Woodstock is the eighth studio album by American rock band Portugal. The Man, released on June 16, 2017 through Atlantic Records.

After having released Evil Friends in 2013, Portugal. The Man began work on a new project, under the working title Gloomin + Doomin. This album was eventually shelved, partly due to a conversation between John Gourley and his father and the discovery of a lost ticket stub from the Woodstock festival.

Work began on the Woodstock album shortly thereafter, involving new music as well as material from the Gloomin + Doomin era. In 2014, the band often uploaded to their Instagram account while working on the album.
