It was a perfect day that fall
There wasn't a cloud in the sky
And the pilot said to me
It's a stellar day to fly

So we headed out east
But we circled for an hour
And then came the word
That they had felled the towers

So for one day each year
On the 11th of September
Can we all join as one?
And bond and remember?

We rented a car and drove
Terrified of what lie ahead
I reached home at midnight
Glad to see my kids in bed

I hugged the spouse and cried
I drank and watched the news
Stunned at the bravery
Of the police and fire crews

Its been ten years of course
But it still burns in my head
And every night I pray
For the devastated and dead

So for one day each year
On the 11th of September
