Resistance House Band - Thank the Scientist Lyrics

Resistance House Band - Thank the Scientist Lyrics

This lab seems so empty
Ever since my intern went away
He really showed such promise
Until he went and damned the human race
And yet people keep on telling me
It's not his fault and I'm to blame
For not showing the foresight
To keep my intern locked up in his cage

They say I should have been smarter
Should have known better
But that's just not how science should work
Yeah, some people are dying
The city's in ruins
But think of all the great things we have learned

About motor skills, about our urge to kill
About how long it takes before we start to rot
About hand grenades, and about first aid
And how badly it hurts to have your legs ripped off
And if these things matter to you
Then thank the scientist

This lab's still so empty
Maybe I should let someone inside
There's plenty of food and water
To keep a couple families alive
But I kind of like my privacy
And I really don't like sharing my supplies
So I'll keep the lab in lockdown
And do my best to ignore their tortured cries

They scream I should have been smarter
Should have known better
But that's just not how science should work
Yeah, some people are dying
The city's in ruins
But think of all the great things we have learned

About human brains, about how to aim
About how fast you'll turn after you've been bit
About guns and knives, about eating right
And how to tell a parent that that's not their kid
And if these things matter to you
Then thank the scientist

This lab's not so empty
Ever since I let them come inside
So now I've got new subjects
And there's so many formulas to try
Yeah, I'm ready to make history
One screaming patient at a time
So I'll make a couple potions
And tell them all they'd better open wide

They said I should have been smarter
Should have known better
But that's just not how science should work
Yeah, some people are dying
The city's in ruins
But think of all the great things we have learned

About human rights, about compromise
How obvious it is that I've done nothing wrong
About brain disease, and hypotheses
And how to change the world while playing God
And if these things matter to you
Then thank the scientist
