A child in a manger on a cold clear night
In a barn there was no where else to go
A worn out mother looks into the eyes
Of a child that was promised long ago
Yes this child was promised from the days of old
The promise beheld then came for you
He was born that day to the world impart
Redemption set in cast of old
So there before Him lay your heart
There before Him lay your heart
Here lies King in lowly manger
A king and more, he made the world
And to that world he now had ventured
The banner of His Kingdom to unfurl
Here lies King of Truth and Glory
In humble rags and mean estate
To bring to pass Salvation's story
For us to open Heaven's gate
To open Heaven's gate
The much relieved husband takes a step outside
And thanks his God as he runs his hand through his hair
His fears and hopes to Him confide
And looked at stars that the hand of his Son put there
It was the hand of his boy that had put them there
In the hands of the Son that had built the world
A callous heart you will not find there
And so come to the alter of a King who cries
And there before Him lay your cares
Before the King come lay your cares.
Here lies King in lowly manger
A king and more, he made the world
And to that world he now had ventured
The banner of His Kingdom to unfurl
Here lies King of Truth and Glory
In humble rags and mean estate
To bring to pass Salvation's story
For us to open Heaven's gate
To open Heaven's gate
And shepherds came to see the sight
The lowly hands from fields below
For the Angels told them just that night
To here find Him from whom all blessings flow
And if to shepherds Angels come
Before Him you may now be found
Before Him lay your sin and shame
And there before Him lay your crown
There before Him lay your crown
There before Him lay your crown
There before Him lay your crown
There before Him lay your crown
Here lies King in lowly manger
A king and more, he made the world
And to that world he now had ventured
The banner of His Kingdom to unfurl
Here lies King of Truth and Glory
In humble rags and mean estate
To bring to pass Salvation's story
For us to open Heaven's gate
To open Heaven's gate
A child in a manger on a cold clear night
In a barn there was no where else to go
