I'm sure it must be a sight
When I sleep alone at night
Watching memories on my phone
Curled up tightly on my side
Setting my own hair alight
Suppose I'm reaping what I sow
And sometimes I close my eyes
To the thought of what might come
And I find I cannot see
Past what's in front of me
But I do it on my own
So when I toss & turn, and I think of her
I know just what she'd do
She'd laugh and say "Good god, what's come of you?"
So when the thoughts still hurt & the skin does burn
I know just what I'll do
Fight the tide, hammer the screw
And she pulls my hair aside
Makes me look her in the eye
Tells me just how much I've grown
I know I should feel some pride
So I smile & I lie
Couldn't do it all alone
And sometimes I close my eyes
To the thought of what moves on
And I find I don't wanna see
Past what's in front of me
But I do it all alone
So when I toss & turn, and I think of her
I know just what she'd do
She'd laugh and say "Good god, what's come of you?"
So when the thoughts still hurt & the skin does burn
I know just what I'll do
Fight the tide, hammer the screw
Don't leave me here alone with her, with her
Like baking in the sun, like baking I burn
I burn
So when I toss & turn, and I think of her
I know just what she'd do
She'd laugh and say "Good god, what's come of you?"
So when the thoughts still hurt & the skin does burn
I know just what I'll do
Fight the tide, hammer the screw
