The Fisherman's Lie
[Pipe organ]
*(Verse 1)*
He cast his line in the morning light,
Skipping work, ignoring the fight,
His wife had warned him, "This can't go on,
If you don't stop, I'll soon be gone."
He swore he'd change, he'd leave the lake,
But a promise made was one to break,
With rod in hand, he returned next day,
To the waters deep where shadows play.
[Pipe organ]
*(Verse 2)*
The water was still, no breeze to blow,
But something lurked in the undertow,
He felt a pull, but not on his line,
A cold chill ran down his spine.
Out of the lake, it slithered and crawled,
With eyes like fire, its hunger called,
Before he could scream, before he could flee,
The beast dragged him under, into the sea.
[Pipe organ]
*(Chorus)*
Never lie to your wife, they say,
Or the lake will take your soul away,
He thought he'd fish and no one would know,
But beneath the surface, something waited below.
A creature rose from the watery deep,
And now he's lost in eternal sleep.
[Pipe organ]
*(Bridge)*
Now the lake is quiet, calm as stone,
His wife waits by the phone alone,
No word, no sign of where he went,
The creature's hunger, forever spent.
The villagers whisper by the shore,
Of men who vanished and came back no more,
And in the wind, the water sighs,
With warnings of fishermen and their lies.
[Pipe organ]
*(Chorus)*
Never lie to your wife, they say,
Or the lake will take your soul away,
He thought he'd fish and no one would know,
But beneath the surface, something waited below.
A creature rose from the watery deep,
And now he's lost in eternal sleep.
[Pipe organ]
*(Outro)*
His promise broken, his fate now sealed,
In the lake's cold grasp, his doom revealed,
So if you're tempted to break your vow,
Remember the fisherman... and where he is now.
[Pipe organ]
