The Singing Skull - The Golden Chest Lyrics

The Golden Chest

*(Verse 1)*
Highway robbers lay in wait,
A stagecoach soon would meet its fate,
Guns drawn high, they took their prize,
With wicked grins and greedy eyes.

Among the gold and jewels they'd found,
A chest of gold, so large, so round,
They thought their fortune had been made,
But the chest held more than they had weighed.

*(Verse 2)*
Back at their lair, they gathered 'round,
The chest was set upon the ground,
They pried it open, eager to see,
What treasures lay beneath the key.

But as it cracked, no riches spilled,
Only darkness deep and hunger filled,
A maw with teeth like sharpened knives,
And out lashed a tongue that claimed their lives.

*(Chorus)*
Beware the chest of gleaming gold,
Its hunger ancient, fierce, and cold,
It waits for those consumed by greed,
To feast upon their endless need.
Legs will sprout, the teeth will bite,
None survive its deadly fight.

*(Bridge)*
The chest grew legs, it came alive,
And none of them could hope to survive,
It chased them down through the shadowed wood,
And one by one, they understood.

Their screams echoed through the night,
As the chest devoured all in sight,
No riches left, no man to tell,
Of the chest that came straight out of hell.

*(Chorus)*
Beware the chest of gleaming gold,
Its hunger ancient, fierce, and cold,
It waits for those consumed by greed,
To feast upon their endless need.
Legs will sprout, the teeth will bite,
None survive its deadly fight.

*(Outro)*
Back at the stagecoach, calm and still,
The owner smiled with quiet thrill,
"Fret not," he said with a knowing grin,
"For greed has claimed them from within.
Soon enough, our goods will return,
And they will face what they've yet to learn."
