Chin up
Follow the rules
Arriving to school on time
Like a good boy does
Absorbing all that the teachers say
And the kids all love him
"Hey man, do you want
To meet up after class
And hang at your place
Think I could crash?"
Shakes his head and gives him a laugh
"Maybe next time"
He lets them take the lead
And falls behind them
Don't want them to see or
Decode the pattern
He gets close to home and takes his breath in
"Man, I hope her mood is good..."
Delicately
Opening the door to feel the tone
Intimidating
Quiet, he's frozen "No, let her be happy..."
That cringe, "Oh no, she's raising her voice
How do the other kids relax at home?"
Don't be the one you said you wouldn't
I need to in control
Don't need that two face splitting your head
I need you to be whole
He tried to be perfect all day
Not push her buttons and keep her safe
As unpredictable as she is
She's a good mom at her core
He wants to spend time and love her
But he ends up getting blamed
For every little thing that's amiss
She can't help it
Every time she cracks she's sorry
I forgive her but inside I hope
Don't be the one you said you wouldn't
I need you in control
Don't need that two face splitting your head
I need you to be whole
Another day goes by I'm helpless
Watching the other kids relax at home
Another day goes by I'm hell bent
On always loving her
