Speedy Justice - Fruits & Vegetables (Thanks For Trying) Lyrics

Speedy Justice - Fruits & Vegetables (Thanks For Trying) Lyrics
Official

At any given second throughout every single day
There's half the world getting ready for bed or asleep
The other half awake
At any second there are sure to be marriages, arguments
People making love, and flirting
Crying laughing
Studying going to school
There are thunderstorms ocean waves
Lots of murders lots of babies being born
Every single second
How did we get to be 8 billion people on this spinning
Hunk of water and rock, it was less than
Half of that when I was born
There are too many storied to listen to
Too much to learn
Too many ways to understand people
And so many unanswered questions
Stupid categorizations we make
Science is just the way people have categorized
What they experience
It's not nature, it is how people understand nature
And believe me when I say we're still in the dark ages
In a couple of hundred years we've really taken off though
And if our understanding continues we'll be into a new age
Soon, one where we can actually make nature work in our favor
Bringing human potential forward in a vast expanse of knowledge
Going further than any sci fi story can even dream
We're right on the cusp of great change a new world and a new reality
But I think maybe we should look around first
And appreciate what we've got, what our ancestors lived through
How they lived, struggled
We ought to take a breath and have a reverence for the past
And what people are doing right now, in the face of life before
People got out of these dark ages
When they look back at us and see how we grew
And what held us back I wonder what they'll think
The way we scientifically categorize our food is so different
From what we're taught, not that it matters
But stuff like this has to apply to other things too in science
We're just not seeing it correctly
For instance, in the study of botany they list fruit as
Something edible that grows from the flower of a plant and
Has seeds which can grow new plants
Vegetables are defined as an edible plant
So fruits grow from the flower of a plant you can eat
And vegetables are an edible plant that doesn't
Come from a flower or have seeds, but has stems
Leaves, roots, bulbs or tubers, like a potato
So scientifically, botanically, by the real definition of fruit
Tomato is a fruit, it comes from the flower of the plant and has seeds
Cucumber is a fruit, pumpkin is a fruit
Beans, olives, avocado, hot peppers, bell peppers
They're all fruits
Zucchini is a fruit, let that sink in
Squash is a fruit
I feel like I've been lied to all these years
Green peas are a fruit, and who would have guessed
That the most popular fruit
Of all was really a fruit? Corn
While it might not matter how things are categorized
Or what people think of their food
I think there's a point to be made that people
Need to be open to seeing science for what it is
It's humanity's understanding of what they experience
If regular folks misunderstood things like botany
Lived their whole lives harmlessly thinking wrongly then
What scientists, who are really regular folks too
What scientists might be misunderstanding things about physics
Biology and chemistry that may be able to open their minds
To other possibilities, other categorizations
Which may open up new ideas, even new branches of science
A couple years ago there was a trend to say something about nature
Then say "thanks science" instead of praising a god, a push toward
Totalitarianism in the west, really, is what it was
But now I'm thinking yeah, our understanding of this world, this universe
Has a long way to go, but wow, what we can understand is amazing
Truly awesome. And in praise of the women and men who have
Given their lives in pursuit of science, I really want to commend them
For the work attempting to benefit us, and say you worked really hard
To get us this far into the dark ages. Thanks for trying
