I was broke down and f*cked up in front of that rusty bus stop
With a dozen angry passengers muttering quietly, "f*ck off"
So I pocketed my car keys and grabbed the pistol I keep locked inside the glovebox
Then I left that god forsaken town before anyone recognized the devil in my mugshot
I sold my last possessions, save for the shirt on my back
Didn't look behind me when I stepped onto those train tracks
All I needed was the stars in the sky to guide me through the haystacks
And the full moon of the night was my light on the path to my payback
I'll be dead by the weekend if I don't get outta this space
So I keep my feet moving, eyes peeled for government plates
Cuz no matter where he goes, I know he knows he'll just be running in place
And I will not stop my pursuit, until my gun's in his face
Smoked a pack of reds before I got a bite to eat
Somewhere on the road between here and my defeat
When the sirens wailed their siren song, I was off my ass and light on my feet
And you might think I'm lying, but believe me it was quite a sight to see
Hitchhiked past the city limits, well into the desert
Where the city's gritty concrete gave way into the red dirt
I'd try to build a new life out here, but I know it's never worth the effort
Besides, it seems no matter what I do, it's just another way to get hurt
Emptied out my pockets and shoveled up a mound
Buried all that money, threw my gun into the ground
Left the quickly dimming horizon behind me, abandoned the sun at sundown
Committed to the course of the crisis, now I'm not f*cking around
