I think it's time to leave Berlin
Every atom in me screams the same thing
I burnt the candles at both ends and then
Ate the leftovers with beer and gin
Scaled the wall and fell into big sin
And became expert in the ways of synth
There's a purity in how I tried
To trade the guitar for electro pride
To cross the border and hold back the tide
Of tears! At my first gig the whole room cried
They'd come to the Splaack Club from far and wide
Ten thousand humans on my tunes they ride
And afterwards I met The OO's band
Waiting backstage just to shake my hand
We chilled together on a baby grand
And spoke of conquering the entire land
From southern mountains to the northern sands
We shared a bunk bed at the Hotel Bland
By next morning we had wrote a song
Some masterpieces really don't take long
We took the U-Bahn underneath the throng
To the studio where we belong
Where all is right and we can do no wrong
At final playback we exclaimed 'Wow that's strong!'
That night we shot the music video
With borrowed iPhone fives and a kino flo
I sketched it on paper, a detailed blow by blow
The cast consisted of just me, J.O and A.O
Up and down we pranced like a rodeo
Dopplebock and wine made our faces glow
The finished video uploaded to the net
Fourteen hundred views, 10 shares is all we get
And I get angry coz I had lost a bet
That it would go viral like a malware threat
Instead I got turfed out of my Schoenberg let
Violent tantrums scared away the friends I'd met
And so I'm penniless, a victim of self-desire
The music press declare "Brokeman's a Phony Liar"
A clever commenter begs me to die in fire
"Throw that synth on too!" Up on the pyre
I look to heaven to take me from the mire
I'm an atheist but God still loves a trier
I think it's time to leave Berlin
I think it's time to leave Berlin
I think it's time to leave Berlin
