Surviving Life - Contemporary Contempt Lyrics

Welcome to Indiana, I'm here to give you this tour
We've got corn fields and depression, and that's about all we can afford
If we all work together we can build a fire to keep us warm
But I'd rather not hear the same old stories anymore

And honestly I want to leave, but there must be something in the water here
That poisons my nerve, and I know it's absurd, but I just keep hoping it gets better
But things wont just get better living in a place intent on keeping you down
Just keep playing the part of the lost sheep who never wanted to be found

What do you do when everything is exactly as it seems?
I'm surrounded by idiots obsessed with killing everything they see
Reaching into the drawer to find a bible or a gun?
We're all relying on destructive substances to keep us all insane

And I've never felt so alone as I do when I'm with these people calling me "friend"
When I teeter on the edge of tragedy you're all so eager to push me in
So don't call on my name when you realize just how wrong you have been
I know somehow you'll find away to bring me back down again
And maybe living here with all of you is the test that I need
But right now the rope I've got to climb looks an awful lot like a noose to me
