There was a red bird that flew right through the window
A shard of glass pierced its beak, it just lay
Barely breathing on the window ledge a full day
Of sunlight till the night meticulously removed
By lonely hands set free to the cold rainy night
Avoided just barely by cats yet able to
Flutter on damaged wings like drunken butterflies
From off in the distance they came
One by one
Brothers and sisters
To the rescue
As if with some innate inborn knowledge came on cue
Surely a creature as beautiful as this
Would take care of its own kind
Gracefully, faithfully
Dancing in circles weave together a new wing
So naturally no effort floating and spinning
Until carried away now and forever free
Carried away forever free
Like a worm would make silk
Like a spider spinning her web
Surely a creature as beautiful as this
Would take care of its own, in everlasting bliss
Surely a creature as beautiful as this
Would take care of its own kind
