Tim Knecht - He Played from the Heart Lyrics

A run down building on the edge of town
The bar of choice for the lonesome to hang around
The beers were cheap and the company sweet
They'd socialize to fight off sleep
Cause for most it was better than being home

One rainy day an old man walked in the bar
Holding an umbrella and a beat up black guitar
He sat on the stage and tuned awhile
Then began to strum with a smile
And played a set that made the place go quiet

He sang of a womans love and mountain air
About the beauty of livin life and the depth of its despair
Each song better than the last, and as the hours past
Each patron threw some change in his case

Because he sang from the heart
Just a man and his old guitar

The old man came every Thursday night
Never drank too much, and never picked no fights
Just ordered a shot of bourbon, and sipped it as he played
Soothing them, and easing all their pain

But then one night the old man didnt show
Everyone waited patiently, until it was time to go
They wondered what might have kept him
From playing his sweet songs
Without his light the night seemed extra long

Because he sang from the heart
Just a man and his old guitar

Then word slowly spread around town, 1
The old man had passed away, in his sleep without a sound
No more to play the strings, or to sing of lovely things
And the people mourned his moving on

They all gathered at the church to say goodbye
Some sat in stony silence while others had to cry
For he helped them all in so many ways
Healed their hearts and minds of so much pain
Helped them find strength to face another day

Because he sang from the heart
Just a man and his old guitar
Because he sang from the heart
Just a man and his old guitar
