I once was a young man thought I had a plan
One that I was certain my father would
Understand
If I took what was mine and I said I'd be fine
Take my share of the inheritance
And go on my way
The look on his face was one of love and grace
He didn't seem to wonder
Why I'd leave this place He sent me on my way but he had this to say:
Go on your way wherever you run;
But remember your home my prodigal son
I went into the world to make my own name;
In search of women glory fortune fame!
With so many around in the throng and the sound I believed that what I had wanted was ultimately found!
Out on adventures and having some fun;
But with no thoughts of home I'm the prodigal son
Suddenly I found myself friends and money gone! A beggar and an outcast a vagabond!
Wondering to myself
How could this go so wrong?
Then I remembered my father and my home
But will he take me back? I'm his prodigal son
The journey home was arduous and hard When I returned he saw me from afar
He threw a cloak around me put a ring on my hand and proclaimed:
A time for rejoicing has come!
Prepare us a feast for my prodigal son!
Welcome him home my Prodigal Son!
