I was laying there
Studying patterns on the ceiling
I try my best to care
But I don't know what I am feeling
The ticking of my wristwatch
On the dresser by the door
Tells me time will still pass
When I'm lying on the floor
Schoolkids out in the street
Shouting out their glee
Kick rocks and empty soda cans
I'm glad they're running free
The buses keep their schedule
Sometimes a bit behind
Driving it seems terrible
All day trapped in your mind
The ticking of my wristwatch
On the dresser by the door
Tells me time will still pass
When I'm lying on the floor
The postman runs the same route
Day in and day out
I hope he's happy doin' it
Because it would make me shout
The monotony of this life
It's irrational at best
Delivering paper to throw away
As the sun sinks in the west
The ticking of my wristwatch
On the dresser by the door
Tells me time will still pass
When I'm lying on the floor
If our time is precious
Worth more than solid gold
Must we sell it for pennies
Until our bodies grow old
Some minutes are worth nickels
Some still worth a dime
Either way life slips by
No one has that much time
