Sulphuric smoke erupts from chimneys in the ground
Hypothermal vents releasing boiling clouds
Grabbing plankton from the hot volcanic mound
She ducks and dives sensing danger all around
Behind a rock there moves a shape she's never seen
Streamlined and reinforced with armour of chitin
Eurypterus approaches opening his jaws
Without a moment's thought the trilobite withdraws
She knows she cannot hide forever
One day she'll have to stand and fight her foes
Tis not her favourite endeavour
Hard to avoid it though, the bigger she grows
She cannot slip and slide forever
As she becomes so much harder to conceal
She realises being clever
Won't stop her from becoming some evil monster's meal
Her exoskeleton is tightening again
The creature's movement becomes hampered and slow
Soon it will be time to find a place to hide away
Where she can shed her skin and grow
She knows she cannot hide forever
One day she'll have to stand and fight her foes
Tis not her favourite endeavour
Hard to avoid it though, the bigger she grows
She cannot slip and slide forever
As she becomes so much harder to conceal
Now she sheds her second armour and begins
Her third instar, now shit is getting real
