When I was a little lad, I tried to listen to my dad
When more than once or twice, he'd offer this advice
As you wander through this life, whatever may be your goal
Keep your eyes on the donut, son, and not upon the hole
But Pete and Jim and Mel, and Matt and Wally tell ya
Such a sweet, sweet smell, could make your eyeballs swell
Gonna watch them fry that dough, and let the donuts roll through the powdered sugar bowl
(Hey where'd they get that hole?)
Gonna let the jelly roll, gotta let them twist and crawl while you gotta keep that goal in front of you
When Daddy was a little boy he was Grandma's pride and joy
Thought he was so very sweet she named him her "Cookie"
And Grandma knew he'd grow, to realize all his goals
When Cookie gazed on donuts not upon the holes
But Pete & Jim & Joe, and Matt & Wally know
Use your eyes and ears and nose, just keep up on your toes
Better skip the donut holes, head for the donuts, those are the ones you wanna keep,
Stack em up up high and neat
Up high on your donut pile stacking up another donut, while you gotta keep that goal, in front of you
Cookie called me a dilletante when I'd got in an accident
I was moving much too fast when a pretty gal jogged right past
I ran into a tree, squirrels laughing down at me,
When I landed on my butt, I looked like a big ole nut!
But Pete & Jim & Mel, and Matt & Wally yell
If you're gonna get outta control, LOOK OUT FOR THE DONUT HOLE!
Keep your eyes on the donut WOAH Keep your eyes on the donut WOAH
Keep your eyes on the donut WOAH Keep your eyes on the donut WOAH
When you've reached every goal, go eat that donut hole
Cause you always keep that goal, in front of you
