When the cold sets in and your fingertips crack
You can't get no relief from the hitch in your back
It's hard to believe that you thought it'd be fine
You didn't even mind when you signed the dotted line
Your bed has been made there ain't no excuse
That's where you gotta lay cause everybody pays their dues
It's only called work they never call it fun
Now you gotta get to work it's gotta get done
I could've been a lawyer a doctor or such
But from myself I never really expected so much
So it's up in the morning gone until five
And I'm drinking so much in between it's not even right
Too much work tends to make a man mean
When every single day is just the same old routine
You dig a pit you fill it you make it a mound
Then you pack it all up and it's off to another town
Another day another dime
Puts the bodies in the pit and you cover them up with lye
You're working by nine drinking by five
It takes a whole lotta bodies just to keep one man alive
So when the cold sets in and your fingertips crack
You can't get no relief from the hitch in your back
It's hard to believe that you thought it'd be fine
You didn't even mind when you signed the dotted line
It never gets better it only gets worse
To be gainfully employed is both a blessing and a curse
Sometimes you gotta dig deep it's a test of your will
When them bodies back up 'cause your pit got filled
Another day another dime
Puts the bodies in the pit and you cover them up with lye
You're working by nine drinking by five
It takes a whole lotta bodies just to keep one man alive
