Mesquite and manzanita
Glowing under golden blaze
The winds of Santa Ana
Blowing down Dust Devil Way
Greasewood cracked in shadowed gulch
'Neath sunset skies vermillion
Chaparral at Lizard's Leap
Now lost to blocks suburban
Concrete-conquered sandy scrub
Sleeps under the demon's spell
Deep roots of cooling orchards
Smothered by split-level shells
The failing sun dims the grid beneath the phosphorescent glow
Traversed by the interstate beyond the aqueduct below
Transiting transport glints in the illuminated rays
The tract homes nestled within an iridescent haze
Bicycle children swing down
Incinerated alleyways
Creosote creatures creeping
Stealthily through the valley maze
Off the hot-tarred evening streets
Lifts rising the revel's swell
Everyone is so happy
Living in their split-level shells
Feeling almost lost as I imagine I'm alone
Stranded in the DEx as I'm losing my way home
