Since it's conception
America had a disease
Black folk were the exception
The white man owned them with ease
But one man, named John Brown
Wanted the slaves to be free
The power of insurrection
Brought the slavers to their knees
Oh, John Brown
I hope we made you proud
Oh, how you wanted more
Oh, John Brown
We need you now
We won't forget what you died for
We won't forget what you died for
One day, in West Virginia
Brown tried to start a revolt
The only way to free a man
John locked and loaded his bolt
They attempted to take the armory
In a place called Harpers Ferry
But John Brown was captured
Or so goes the story
Oh, John Brown
I hope we made you proud
Oh, how you wanted more
Oh, John Brown
We need you now
We won't forget what you died for
We won't forget what you died for
John Brown was tried for the crime of treason
He was found guilty of every one of his counts
On December 2nd he was hung for all the militia to see
He died there in Virginia, because he wanted men to be free
Oh, John Brown
I hope we made you proud
Oh, how you wanted more
Oh, John Brown
We need you now
We won't forget what you died for
We won't forget what you died for
