The lantern in the window
Shattered to the floor
Kerosene and flames
Met the moonshine with a roar
The man who threw the bottle
Head encased in hands
Rocked against the wall
Weeping for the damned
And he sang
Oh
My love
My dear
I've killed for you for our whole lives
And I will not stop here
Drowned in bitter sweetness
He fell into his mind
A slow dance in the darkness
To the screaming wind outside
Refracted moonlight thrown and
Shredded through blinds
He could barely still remember
That look inside her eyes
The cabin glowed like fire
Flames climbing on the curtains
He was never scared of death
Though he never was quite that certain
As the heat closed all around him
He truly was prepared to die
He might end up in hell
But he'd at least be at her side
